A development of the One Euro Portrait (see Marbella post below), whereby a subject's portrait is made over ONE MINUTE, for the price of ONE POUND. Performed at the National Portrait Gallery.
The expected outcome is exceeded many many times over.
We had imagined that the portraits would be popular because of the minimal investment on the part of the sitter, however, because of the huge queue would-be sitters were waiting 15 minutes for their turn. This made them very nervous, much more nervous than the artist, especially as their sitting loomed and they witnessed those before them.
At all times the £1 coin was kept in view inbetween the sitter and the artist as a reminder of the transaction.
